The historic Old Hall Hotel, just across from the Pavilion Gardens and the Opera House, is the oldest hotel in England. Part of the current building was built by Bess of Hardwick's 4th husband, the Earl of Shrewsbury, for Mary Queen of Scots when she came to take the waters in Buxton in the 16th Century.
Buxton Crescent was built in the 1780s by the fifth Duke of Devonshire as the centrepiece of his Georgian Spa development at Buxton.
